One of the more common issues my clients tell me they are having - is they don't really know themselves. Often I hear, well I go along to get along, or it really doesn't matter when a choice needs to be made, because I have no idea what I want to do.
I also was like this prior to learning to love myself. I remember telling my counselor pretty much the very same thing, I don't even know who I am and what I like. She asked me what my favorite color was - and I couldn't even answer that. I used to pick whatever color my friends liked.
Think about it....when you start to date someone, what do you do to get to know them? You ask questions and listen as they tell you all about themselves. Well it's time for you to do the same thing. Start asking yourself questions and recording your answers. You can start small like, favorite color, food, musician, animal, etc.....but then start asking yourself some of the more big questions. Do I want to be married? Do I want children? Where would I like to live? Get to know yourself on a very deep level.
Believe it or not, knowing that information about yourself will give the the foundation you need to start building the love you have for yourself. We were all born with nothing but love in our hearts - it's just that life, people, events can start to pound it out of you. Well it's time to start to return to the beginning where there was nothing but love.
There are many online resources you can use to start asking yourself these questions. I also have a seven session program you can sign up for that will take you down the path to self love. Class one is all about taking yourself on a "first date" and start to get to know who you really are.
If this seems really easy, it's because it is. Often it's the easiest things we don't try because we think they won't work. Remember knowledge is power, and knowing yourself is the most powerful thing you can do for yourself.
