As I begin to focus on the healing part of this journey, and work towards the realization that I have to love me first in order to experience “true love,” I am doing what I do best; assembling a team of professionals to help me through this transition.
I read somewhere recently that the time and resources spent to heal after this type of abusive relationship ends will be vast. I have found that to be true so far. In order to try to start to move the energy of shock, despair, depression, anger, and fear through me and out of my body, I was willing to try anything.
Having spent the past 30 years in and out of conventional therapy with limited success, I chose to seek out alternative therapies. Not to say that working with a good therapist doesn’t help, it does, the problem is finding a really good therapist. I have only had two really great ones during those 30 years.
My first “AT” (Alternative Therapy) was re-birth breathing. I was able to move a lot of the childhood trauma out using this technique. It was a six month investment of my time – once per week at a cost of about $125 per session. During this process, you lie in a comfortable position, and breathe in and out of your mouth for about 45 minutes. The practitioner will be there to help you release things that come up, and believe me they do. As things come up, you work with your own body and breath to release the memory and emotion around it. The things I let go of this way, have never come back to haunt me. They are no longer rent space in my head.
EFT therapy, (Emotional Freedom Technique) can be self taught by watching YouTube videos. I chose to work with a practitioner first, to really understand the process before I took it on myself. The basic technique requires you to focus on the negative emotion at hand: a fear, anxiety, a bad memory, an unresolved problem, or anything that is bothering you. While maintaining your mental focus on this issue, use you tap 5-7 times on each of your body’s meridian points with your fingertips. Tapping on these points – while concentrating on accepting and resolving the negative emotion – will shift your body’s energy to a balanced state. This is a low cost, highly effective "AT” that you can use anytime you need to.
I found acupuncture to be a wonderful way for my body to heal itself. Acupuncture involves the insertion of very thin needles through a person's skin at specific points on the body. This allows any blocked energy to be release, helping to bring calmness to your mind, and relaxation to your body. Typically these sessions run about 45 minutes to an hour and run around $60 per session. I went once a week in the beginning and now try to get there at least once per month.
I will continue with more of the “AT’s” I tried on tomorrow’s blog post. You will have to work with the different therapies to see which ones resonate with you and your energy. You may do well with one, or a combination of them; its trial and error, but worth the time. After all, as we walk through this dark valley we might as well have a Sherpa or two to lead us out to the promised land: Loving Yourself totally and completely!
Dearest Willow Moon Fairchild, well written and detailed . I should try the AT for my anxiety issues. Your writing style is easy to understand and and the flow is light and entertaining. I think you have the ability to write a book , that would interest and help a broad audience .
